Being connected to Daemon Black sucks….

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town….

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes….

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies….

Emily:

Note: this review is based off a re-read. Does it matter? Probably not. But now you know.

You thought you loved Daemon when he was all asshole, all the time. And you probably did. But prepare yourself, peeps, because Onyx has something even more bone-melty in store for you...

Daemon's going to woo.

That's right, kids. He was that excellent without trying. None of us stand a chance when he actually does. It's truly a thing of beauty.

Post-Halloween, Daemon has turned a corner with Katy and is determined to prove his affections are more than just lingering, disco-ball alien mojo. And while I wish I could be Katy for it, it's still so amazing to see.

While I understand Kat's hesitation in the beginning (to a degree—I'd still be all over that, regardless of where his feelings came from), it became so frustrating to see her continue to reject him. This was where I started talking (somewhat angrily) to Kat as I read like a crazy person. I love the girl, but all she was doing was hurting herself (and Daemon, which we will not abide).

Speaking of hurt, this is the book where it starts. From this book on, JLA is not afraid to bring the waterworks and it's as wonderful as it is achingly tragic. And, really, it all starts with Blake.

You will come to hate him just as vehemently as the italics suggest, trust me.

But I won't dwell. Just know that I have a lot of rage and it was there for me from the moment he showed his face.

As a certain someone is mucking things up, we also get more up-close-and-personal with the DOD as they try to keep a handle on what's going on. As you can probably tell, their role will only continue to grow in importance.

If possible, Onyx might be better than Obsidian. Full of even more adventure, intrigue, action, swooning, and feels, this series is not to be missed. Have I convinced you yet? Please go read!

Izzy:

Before you ask: yes, this is still me:

After the showdown with the Arum on Halloween, Daemon and Katy are connected. Like, seriously connected. Hearts-beating-in-tandem, can-sense-each-other's-presence kind of connected.

And it's driving them insane.

Daemon is hell-bent on jumping into a relationship with Kat and she...well she's fighting it the best she can. After all, he wasn't even remotely interested in her before this happened! At least, that's what she keeps telling herself.

As they try to figure out the extent of this connection, the DOD swarms Petersburg, investigating the shit-storm they had been apart of. For everyone's safety, Daemon and Kat agree to keep their weird-alien-connection-thing on the DL. Well, except Daemon is going to great lengths to woo Kat in public. That he's not keeping on the down-low.

And he is just so damn good at it!

But isn't that all of our dreams? To have Daemon woo us? I mean, I would definitely look like John here if I were in Kat's shoes:

But Kat, being her reasonable self, does her best to ignore his charms, and focuses her attention on the new guy, Blake, who seems to actually like her. Naturally, him and Daemon have a show-down.

And on top of her having two attractive men vying for her affection (not going to lie, super jealous), she begins to suffer some after effects of the connection. Like stuff keeps flying around her and she can't control it.

Overall, Kat is having a pretty stressful semester. I mean, she just found out about aliens and now she's shattering windows by accident and her love life is a complete mess. Poor girl. I'm still jealous, but poor girl.

But our girl has had it with being extra baggage for the Black family. So when an opportunity to learn how to control her newfound abilities arises, you can be your happy little butt that she takes that chance. She will not be a weakness anymore.

Over the course of her training, Kat discovers more secrets about her connection with Daemon, what happened between Dawson and Bethany and she learns that not everyone is as they seem.

Which is all I'm going to say!

The sequel to Obsidian is awesome, and there is so much juicy tension between Daemon and Katy, you'll be drooling. But trust me, it's worth it. Completely worth it.

GAH!!! Please go read this series!
